For the love of paint!
Looking back to where my love of paint all began, complete with a full-length red velvet dress and a crown of white curls, it was kindy, right here on kangaroo Island. I cherished every year of school, but kindergarten holds a special place in my heart. Those warm, fuzzy memories of pure joy and the simple rule of kindness still sparkle.
I recall the final day vividly. We gathered in the wooden cubby house, kids, guinea pigs and maybe even a chicken or two, anticipation buzzing. Our gifts were wrapped in newspaper and handed out one by one, and I was thrilled to receive a treasure trove of supplies: paddlepop sticks, colorful pipe cleaners, glue, textas, paint pots, and a generous wad of paper. Little did I know it was my “starter pack” for life!
When people discuss my artwork with me today, I often joke, 'I never progressed past kindergarten; it's all just finger painting.' And it's true! Finger painting still brings me immense joy. I lost my artistic way for about two decades, unable to find my own style. But rediscovered the joy of painting with my children and reignited my creative spark, and for the past 15 years I have been refining my style with wild abandonment, although like most things in life it’s ever changing!
(I hope to make originals available through my website soon, for now you’ll find it on the walls at A Little Art Space in Kingscote, Kangaroo Island.)
